If you ever wondered how real investigative police work is done, this is how it's done in harsh, unvarnished reality. This is the story of an FBI agent who became dedicated to solving serial killings and stopping child abuse. Ten such true stories are reported from his perspective as agent involved. The crimes are horrible, but the investigative techniques are impressive. The author became especially successful at obtaining confessions by patiently connecting to the virtuous parts of the perpetrators. This aspect of the book is particularly interesting in view of the harsh methods that have been adopted and condoned in the pursuit of terrorists. The stories about child abuse serve as a reminder of how so many children are permanently damaged by the adults who should be protecting them and how much this is costing society.

One of the best books I have read in a really long time. This is a non-fiction book, that details the realities of an FBI agent trying to make a difference with his life. He bears his soul for the world to see. From the nasty political side of law enforcement, to the incredible moments of triumph where he helps or is personally responsible for locking up the monsters, I could not put this book down. I can’t think of a more honorable career that this author lived. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know.

Im not sure if the world realizes the evil that is out there and the dedication it takes of our FBI agents and law enforcement to work cases as described in this book. This book provides insight on how tough a person would have to be to windstand the numerous, countless cases of seeing the evil in the world that is done to the most innocent and precious. Children that have no one to fight for them because their parents are a lot of the times their violator or assaulter. The beautiful souls that were taken with the Yosemite murders. This book shows a person with a true heart that cares about each one of these victims and fights for their justice . It shows that the not only the children are the victims but also the FBI agent, his team members and his family. The pain bleeds out to everyone and the world is truely blessed that we have individuals like him that have spent their lives working to solve crimes and also providing the families with love, support and some insight to what has happened. He shows compassion by going as far as to seeing things from the attackers thinking and why they may be the way they are, to better help so its not done to others again. The book explains the sacrifices his own family has made and really gives the depth of all he has endured all to make sure they arent forgotten and to make sure these evil people are stopped from doing it to any more people. My heart goes out to all the victims, their families, the people that give their lives to protect us and I feel safer knowing there are people like this man that are looking out for us all. What an awesome book.

This book is as real as it gets. Jeff Rinek brings the details and behind the scenes investigation of some of the most horrid crimes that we’ve seen in the headlines. Instead of seeing these crimes through the eyes of reporters, this book details crimes through the eyes and heart of the investigators. Jeff Rinek’s heart and soul speaks for the children and their families. I highly recommend this book, you will never forget it.

This book is about evil. The crimes are very disturbing. I would not allow someone under 18 to read this book.The author is a detective who investigated crimes against children for many years and had a real talent for interviews with killers. He knew how play a nonjudgmental and compassionate person to get these monsters to open up and confess. He isn't without empathy for the hard lives that many offenders have lived without excusing their crimes.These offenders are complex people.
