If you have celiac and you have ever tried to go vegan, you have probably woken up several days later, laughing hysterically: "There's nothing to eat!"Not so: mayonnaise, meatloaf, brownies--it's all here.The author also limits recipes that use corn, soy, and sugar, resulting in food that is low glycemic index, allergy-free, vegan and gluten-free. Perfect, perfect, perfect.Well, almost: many of the recipes have long ingredient lists, but they won't take forever, and they include recipes that can be cooked a month in advance and then frozen. (Your mother should have taught you not to freeze tomatoes.)My only real complaint is the book's discussion of oats: the author says that oats don't have gluten, and so they are safe. Actually, oats contain avenin, which is just a different form of gluten; in a test tube, intestinal samples have an immune reaction to avenin; but, in live people, there are many fewer anti-gliadin antibodies (the bad stuff) in diagnosed celiacs who eat oats.The problem is, some celiacs do fine on oats--and some don't. It's difficult to tell until the person in question starts to get sick again.However, with that one caveat, this cookbook is way cool, and very, very useful. If you are willing to spend any time in the kitchen at all, this is well worth picking up.

As many reviewers have stated, this book really, really needs to have pictures. Also, the author continually lists "canned tomato" for some crazy reason - as well as canned this and canned that. I just find that bewildering in a cookbook that is supposed to be about healthy, aware eating. However, there are a couple of good recipes in here, e.g. the granola. Overall, I am happy I have this, because there are not a heck of a lot of good options out there with the vegetarian/vegan AND gluten free combo.

I love this cookbook; although I am not really vegan, I do like to eat plant based meals, and need to avoid gluten and dairy. The recipes are easy to follow, not too complicated (ingredients), and everything I have made using it has been delicious. My daughter borrowed mine and after a few months had not returned it, and I liked it enough to order a new copy online. What I found is that the ingredients were not so different from what I use in my usual recipe- free cooking, but that the combinations, approaches, and flavorings were different enough that it provided variety in my meal prep. I find that it is easy to get stuck in a bit of a rut cooking wise, and this book helps me to spice up the routine!

I knew how to cook. I think this book is for people who have no idea what a kitchen even is. I thought many of the recipes were more like ideas and that most people can cook the meals without the help of a book. If you are new to cooking and just happened to be gluten free and vegan it might work for you. I feel like I wasted money on this book.

These recipes might be good, but based on what I read, none of it seemed inspirational or new or surprising - which is what I particularly look for in a cookbook. I also think this has a hard time stacking up against so many of the new cookbooks that are full of delectable photos.

Tasty, delicious recipes for those of us who cannot eat gluten or dairy. You do not need to be a vegan to appreciate and enjoy this book, and it won't make you feel like you're trying to recreate those old standards. These are just plain great recipes, several of which I have added to my standard fare. Most are low calorie, but high nutrition, making them suitable for CR (Calorie Restriction) followers as well. The best cookbook I have come across in years. You can always add meat if you are so inclined, but they certainly don't need any additions to be enjoyed as they are.

If you want a book filled with recipes you can take to any gathering that EVERYONE will be able to eat, and that everyone will love, this is your go-to book. I've tried a dozen recipes so far and every one has been successful and delicious. One reviewer commented here that there were lots of ingredients to the recipes, but in fact the recipes are almost universally short and easy, averaging probably less than ten ingredients including salt and pepper. There are no obscure ingredients or odd substitute foods. I cook quite a lot and this is now one of my very favorite cookbooks, regardless of the dietary restrictions it serves. Highly recommended.
