Chris Prieto is a champion pitmaster and owner of Prime Barbecue in Wendell, North Carolina. His journey into cooking and the world of barbecue began when he was a child in Houston. The pictures are gorgeous & it is organized in a way that is easily referenced by cut of meat. The basic rub recipe is amazing & you'll want to put it on everything. Bought a Weber kettle grill at the beginning of the summer and a few BBQ books. I've been grilling for years, but wanted to move from gas to charcoal & try it all from a fresh perspective. I cooked ribs, pulled pork, steak, chicken & used the side recipes too out of this book - they all seem regionally authentic & were delicious. I also purchased Weber's Big Book of Grilling at the same time & haven't used it once. The Ultimate book of BBQ got us through the entire summer with BBQs at least once a week!

What a great cookbook!It is a fusion of spice, ideas, techniques, and inspiration. It is a book filled with some old secrets of Southern BBQ and adventurous sauces, salsa, and sides for the modern cook.The Ultimate Book of BBQ is extremely helpful for the average person who doesn’t know all of the cuts of meats and doesn’t feel like they have time to spend in the meat market asking the butcher numerous questions about types of meat, how to cook it, and where to find it. Chris Prieto does a masterful job of explaining all of this; he is a born teacher with a drooling audience. These recipes are exciting and easy. We just needed the explanation so that we could have confidence at the grill! Prieto is an inspiring teacher!Grilling fish and anything past steak, chicken, and hamburgers didn’t happen in our backyard; we stayed with what we knew how to do. We no longer need to eat out to have delicious, adventurous, and easy seafood, ribs, and roasts. What an inspiration!One doesn’t have to be a “meat eater” to enjoy this book and the recipes. There are incredible recipes for grilled vegetables and fruit, side dishes, sauces, and salsas! There are even recipes for slow cookers and the stovetop.Southern Living’s Ultimate Book of BBQ with Pitmaster Christopher Prieto has breathed new life into our kitchen and grill and it has become my “go to” gift - no better gift than good food shared between family and friends!

Good array of recipes for different kinds of meat... beef, pork, poultry, lamb/mutton and fish. Basic smoking instructions. Various recipes for rubs, sauces and brines. Main courses, side dishes and veggies many with a focus on incorporating smoked products into the meal...others just good and/or tradition side dishes for your BBQ.....Love this book. It doesn't go into detail about different types of smokers If you want to be a competition pit master look elsewhere. But for the weekend warrior who wants to make yourself happy and wow your family and friends with good BBQ..... this one's for you. This one is well worth owning.

Southern Living has always been one of my favorite magazines, and I've prepared numerous recipes with great results. So I had no problem purchasing one of their cookbooks for a wedding shower gift. The recipes looked delicious, using mostly ingredients I usually have on hand. Paired with some BBQ utensils, it made the perfect gift. The recipients were thrilled, and had good results with the recipes they've tried.

Wow. Great cookbook with easy to follow recipes. If you're like me and love cookbooks with great pics, get this one now. Chris has a passion for BBQ second to none and it shows in this great book. I can't recommend it enough. This one is a WINNER!

Maybe buying this wasn't a good idea, I'm eating way too well these days. It has sauce recipes... seriously we're addicts now...and all other kinds too, main dishes, side dishes, rubs, etc. I'm contemplating carrying around my own bottle of el Sancho BBQ sauce (recipe in the book) for when we eat out. It's that good.

My PitMeister son-in-law was very impressed by his gift! The nice thing about the book is all the sidebars that offer quick advice, alternatives, and go-withs (including many go-with recipes). It's a book for all seasons with ways to bring summer grilling inside. It's a great book for its variety and its authenticity.

Borrowed from library, then bought it as its a superb cookbook. Photos will inspire you too! In addition to BBQ there are slaw/sauce/rub and even crock pot recipes!
